Message to All Members of the North Malaysia Malayalee Association
Dear Members,
This Website is dedicated to all members of the North Malaysia Malayalee Samajam (NMMS) and is aimed at bringing us all closer together.
You will recognise that this association has been in existence since 1951 and began as a meeting point and confluence for all Malayalees in the Northern States of Perlis, Kedah and Pulau Pinang. We have since grown in numbers and today have a membership exceeding 600 members. In a situation
such as this, it is imperative that the outreach be extended so that we can continue to play that role of continuing to interact with each other and as a community.
Our founders had the foresight to not just form this association but further to invest in our Samajam building which stands tall in Green Lane, Penang. The objectives of the Samajam, as outlined in the constitution continues to be relevant to the association and the community and outlines the role of the Association in acting to safeguard the “the interest of Malayalee residents in Penang, Province Wellesley, Kedah, Perlis and Upper Perak in general and work for the betterment of their lot and progress in Social, educational, Cultural, Physical and Economic matters.” The Samajam has since also acquired a property in Sungai Patani for its members to use.
It is time for us to rejuvenate our Samajam, with ideals, ideas and activities which promote unity and assist our community to step forward with confidence and a stronger sense of purpose and I urge all of you to utilise this website as a means of reaching out to your Committee to participate in this whole process. You can post your ideas through this email and do not remain anonymous, so that we can engage in a discussion. Your thoughts and ideas, your efforts and abilities will help our organisation rise again and we need our collective strength for this purpose.
Let me also emphasize that we are a non-political, non -religious organisation of mature thinking adults who are looking at progress, improvement and growth. As such, please avoid postings which can cause hurt and create disharmony — it will defeat the very purpose of our organisation.
So especially to all the young, youthful and productive Malayalees out there, who we have not heard from — this is your opportunity to step forward and contribute. We, uncles and aunties are prepared to step back, listen and support those ideas that will strengthen our Samajam. We look
forward to hearing from everyone.
